COVID-19: Russian Courts Suspend Hearings

18 March 2020

The Russian Supreme Court reacted to the circumstances generated by the COVID-19 pandemic by issuing a ruling imposing a limitation on the lower courts’ current activities.

From March 19, 2020, to April 10, 2020, all Russian courts are required to limit the number of hearings to those related to…

  • undelayable urgent matters, such as the following:
    • imposing, extending, canceling or changing a preventive punishment
    • defending the interests of minors and legally incapable persons whose legal guardian refuses a vital medical treatment
  • summary proceedings

Therefore, the hearings of IP cases during the aforementioned period shall be postponed.

The Supreme Court also ruled to restrict physical access to courts and recommended that litigants file all documents electronically.
