Remy Martin Successfully Defends ST-REMY Trademark

E. REMY MARTIN & CO (France) fended off an invalidation attack against its ST-RÉMY trademark.
An invalidation action against the protection in Russia of the international registration № 1367150 (ST-RÉMY) was filed with Rospatent’s Chamber for Patent Disputes. The plaintiff claimed that ST-RÉMY is a reproduction of the name of the Christian saint Remigius and therefore it cannot be used as a sign marking alcoholic beverages because this offends the religious feelings of believers.
Sojuzpatent lawyers’ position prevailed at the hearings and protection of the trademark was kept in full.
