How to overcome a lack of distinctiveness refusal

When is it possible to overcome Rospatent’s refusal to register a trademark based on the lack of distinctiveness?

If your mark has not been accepted by the Russian Patent and Trademark Office because of the lack of distinctiveness and has been refused registration, it is still possible to achieve registration if it can be proved that through an extensive use of the mark it has become widely known not just as an ordinary sign, but as a trademark.
